Fastwalker:
You were doing something wrong with your setup.
Throttle, brake, clutch (if used) are better off being on the keyboard.

This way the mouse is only used for steering and gears up / down.
This reduces the tapping and thus stress in the wrist / fingers. It also increase steering precision because you dissociate steering from the rest.
It still is uncomfortable but more bearable, I switched to this method after some time mousing and while it took time to relearn, it was quickly rewarding.

I now use exclusively G25, even if that reduced my racing time quite a lot (space, noise, setup time as I have to store the lot after use). Could not race with mouse anymore, although I would probably still be faster with low power cars.

On the other hand the damage model is what it is today.
Damage model is not complete and a little "arcadey", therefore I think it is fair that the pitcrew should be equivalent.

I did some Netkar races with "Full mode" enabled - you can easily spend 10-15 minutes in pits for brushing a wall, sometimes deserved sometimes not. It sure teaches you to stay off the walls and other cars (especially with a randomized collision detection ) but means your race can be over in no time due to small lag or minor bug in collision detection. A tiny bit frustrating...

I'd rather wait for a more complete and detailed damage system to be released before we get realistic repairs, don't you?

Whenever we run MRT on the Dead Men Racing server we use the following workaround:

1) Reset set to on for the host options (standard off)

2) Insim (Ario) assigns a penalty whenever the reset is actuated (pit stop + 15 seconds to clear). The latest patch prevents a reset that could cause danger (i.e. whenever the car to be resetted causes a yellow flag).

This works well (1 hour MRT race around South City tracks means you could well end up in front of a wall ) but still is based on trust (if one trashes the car, he can get away with a reset + 15s instead of crawl back to pits and wait 30s - we do not see that but it could still happen).

Sometimes I wish walls would kick back

Spam and thread hijacking always comes from the same loud minority, that has been complaining about LFS development speed for... ever. But they are still here maybe the maturity to enjoy the path will strike them before S2 final

I want to thank you (development team) for the news and progress report, but I can see how a constructive discussion about the news is nearly impossible in here - you have to scroll pages to find interesting and relevant posts on topic.

I enjoy following your path forward in creating this game, from within, and I appreciate that you share you difficulties, ideas and sometimes frustration with us users.

Please keep it up!

Use this fantastic tool to understand what you are doing (VHPA by Bob Smith).

Keep in mind that:
The base setup for the FBM car is understeery
The near infinite adjustment possibilities we currently have will let you do almost anything with the cars (FWD that oversteer on throttle )

Quote from Mazz4200 :Phnargh...:icon23:

(Please accept a most humble apology for my somewhat childish behaviour.
That line would have resulted in pure "Kev gold" had it been written six months ago, but, owing to his continued absence, and my obvious lack of intelligent witticism, that's the best reply i could come up with, and i'm not even sure if it's spelled correctly. Feel free to ignore...thank you)

New poll for this year's awards: Best Kev sidekick.
You get one point

Thanks for the news Tristan, always interesting to read and watch even if we do not comment.

Secondary tips:

Since you are using the mouse to control the car, you will need to tweak the car unrealistically to get smoother.
1) Brake force: Reduce that, until you can apply the brakes at full speed (end of blackwood straight for example) without locking up the tyres.

2) Button control rate: Reduce this value (maybe down to 3) so that your button inputs are sent to the car with a fake ramp. It kind of compensates the on/off effect of the buttons, and will help you get smoother.

3) Make sure you disable mouse acceleration in LFS (or in windows if your mouse is not capable of using different setups). Play with the sensitivity and linearity until you feel that the virtual steering wheel is moving like you would expect it to move in a real car.

4) Do not use the mouse buttons for throttle / brake, it will be more effective to do throttle / brake on the keyboard so that you can concentrate on steering better.

Mouse can be very competitive, especially for the lower powered cars. F08 and LX6 will prove harder

Welcome and enjoy the learning curve, you will have to do it again when you get a wheel

However it is probably cheaper to tranfer money to Money.bookers (see the lfsnet payment information, you can find some links there as well) and from there to the devs.

Money.bookers allows you to do a standard money transfer from your bank account, non international, to a local account they have. You can transfer the exact amount you need. Then they convert the money in GBP and allow you to pay Scavier. Fees overall are much lower than the cost of an international money transfer, worth a look.

That is how I purchased S2, cost above S2 for the transfer was probably less than 1 extra £.

Mr Oddball: Unlucky evening for you on the LR server - I would suggest you try some less populated server or learn the tracks offline, using "4" (drawing racing line) before joining such a place. It can be harsh
See you soon on track.

My point of view here, hoping to light up the debate (lighter style, not flamethrower style )

It seems to me that LFS follows a unique path, trying to simulate car physics as accurately as a computer game can do it.
On the other hand, ISI and iRacing seem to aim at simulating how a car feels, as accurately as a computer game can do it.

Both ways are equally correct, however the limitations induced by the sim being only a computer game have a different effects on the user, with different shortcomings especially during development phase.

I see LFS development as being a more hardcore / purist way, like high level maths are a form of art (abstract art I must say). ISI - iracing way is probably more efficient and to the point, and in the end when these sims have reached maturity the difference between them will probably be barely noticeable.

I am more interested in the LFS way - it feels like an incredible piece of software, but I am also sure that it is not following the most efficient way. Long years enjoying the path forward ahead, why not?
If we ever get bored on the path forward, we can jump on the rfactor - iracing wagon, and get comparable or faster progress. We will probably all come back here later though

The only way to have an uneven field of AIs driving the same car is to give them different setups.
Try some on Race_S, and some on Bob's road going sets. Then you will see an uneven field.

On the other hand they used to "overtrain" (similar to what we humans do in long races ) - they don't do that anymore, and are now able to aknowledge tyre temps, fuel load, tyre wear.

They still
Ignore you and each other unless you step exactly on their racing line (in this case they stop )

I went from 3 years mousing (discontinuous, long demo period) to wheel last september.
It took me a few months to match my pbs in the slower cars, but much less for the higher powered RWD cars.
Even if you are not as quick as before, there are immediate benefits:
Consistency
Ability to feel, therefore understand setup changes (that is good because you can throw your mouse / kb setups away immediately)
Fun / immersion.

Practice!

shhh. keep it low please!
Not supposed to be an advertisement, Doorman and Lameduck are keeping all lunch vouchers for Venca and Moose to stay on board these days, so I have nothing to get from that

PS Besides this place is only fun for slowpokes and backmarkers, so I can get some competition down the grid

Ario / Lapper are great tools, but will never replace live admins.
Same thing for CTRA - the reporting system was an attempt to provide good races (upper licences) without live admins, while providing training to beginners on entry servers.
In my opinion CTRA was designed neglecting "old timers", excellent concept though for new LFS players.

I got fed up with pickup racing lack of etiquette, I'm not commited / competitive enough for league racing, I am not newbie enough to start collecting point on a specific server.

After a while I've found a place to race, that suits my (lack of) racing timeframe and my conception of online racing (with live admins). So I can say that such places do exist, even if they are well hidden within the myriad of servers running the same combo or silly lapper / ario configurations. Keep searching!

101% in profiler and 25-50% in game according to the car, track and my liking (overall pretty low to reduce noise).
It is not about the strength, but the feeling.

Very high FFB tend to give you a poor feedback - on/off style, because of the "clipping" / cutting out larger effects when you already are at 100% of the FFB capacity of the wheel.

Experiment, and find your own.
